This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Field Planning Engineer to join our East Energy team. The following locations will be considered: Massachusetts (Boston); New York (Buffalo/Rochester/Binghamton/Albany); Connecticut (Glastonbury/Shelton/Orange); Maine (Augusta/Eliot/Portland). Your Impact

  • The Field Planning engineer is responsible for the following functions:
    • Conductor Selection
    •  Scope of work recommendations
    •  Insulation
    •  Line Design: Plans and Profiles, Cross section details
    •  LiDAR and aerial photo data
    •  Utilization of wetlands, vernal pool and sensitive resource data in line and structure design and placement
    •  Other studies as required to complete the projects
    •  Lead overall distribution line design for all capital projects
    •  Review/Design distribution line plan and profile drawings using AUTOCAD/Firefly to ensure compliance with client distribution standards and other standards 
  • Drive the project plan for distribution line routing and strategy, specifically:
    • Decide whether to rebuild existing lines or obtain additional right of way based on area congestion and local politics/permitting issues
    • Determine required structure designs based on design constraints
    • Determine routing in and around into congested stations to optimize design/reliability and minimize the number of crossings
  • Create SAP executable WOs
  • Create scoping documentation - including proposed scope of work in word form and plotted on circuit map
  • Create Detailed engineering design with sketch that includes scope of work installs, transfers, removals and T tables with applicable CUs, Qtys and PayID template that corresponds to the scope of work
  • Submit Highway permits as required
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • 2 to 5 years experience in testing and commissioning, electrical equipment testing experience
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working in consulting firms.
  • Possess knowledge of systems design for various projects.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD, Firefly, LiDAR, and other aerial photo tools
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Efficient communications and ability to work with team members not located in the same office through MS Teams, email, and/or telephone calls.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
  • This position is subject to and contingent upon client approval of candidates put forth for consideration by WSP.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification or Eligible for P.E. licensing.
