The Advanced Airframes Department within Raytheon Hardware Engineering provides Mechanical Engineering support to develop solutions for products across the Raytheon portfolio. Our core mechanical engineering responsibilities include requirements/conceptual development, design, integration, and test support. We partner with several Mechanical Product Team departments to provide full system solutions. 

For an integration and demonstration effort, the Advanced Airframes Department is seeking a Principal Team Lead with experience in mechanical design, team leadership, Earned Value Management, hardware integration, and flight test support. Additionally, the individual will support a parallel development/fabrication contract as the deputy Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) to assist the IPTL in providing both technical guidance and supervision in meeting project commitments during the development phase.

What You Will Do

  • Assist the development-phase IPTL with the execution of the Mechanical development effort by leading a team of engineers to design, develop, integrate, and test mechanical hardware within the Advanced Technologies area
  • In parallel with the above role, for a related integration and demonstration contract, lead the cross-discipline (Avionics, Sensor, Mechanical) hardware team’s contributions through planning and execution of the hardware team’s contribution to this phase
  • Work independently, under limited supervision, and act in a project leadership role, often requires the ability to delegate and review the work of others.
  • Own the Earn Value Management System (EVMS) and Cost Account Management (CAM) for several accounts across multiple contracts
  • Assist with the management of mechanical risk and opportunities
  • Support failure investigations as required
  • Work environment is primarily in an office, but may include occasional travel, labs, and field work
  • Assignments may include presenting to team members, peers, management, and government customers
  • Collaborate with both Functional and Program higher level management.
  • Collaborate with Customer and Suppliers

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 7 years of prior relevant experience
  • 7 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Mechanical product and/or subassembly design, integration, and/or production support
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in Earned Value Management (EVMS) and Cost Account Management (CAM) of full EVM (IMS baselining, Baseline Change Requests, Variance Narratives, etc.)
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced degrees in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related engineering degree.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in hardware design, development, and or test of defense-related components or systems
  • Bachelor of Science or master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 2+ Years of experience as a CAM
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware
  • Proposal Experience including writing Basis of Estimates (BOE’s) and providing material estimating inputs
  • Experience Managing Suppliers
  • Highly self-motivated individual that can perform multidiscipline work
  • Able to network / influence outside of the Department with other design and production support organizations, program leadership,
