Supervises the development, care, maintenance and beautification of county parks, playgrounds, other recreational areas, and landscaped areas surrounding public buildings in a geographical district; supervises the care and maintenance of equipment; makes recommendations for improvements to existing buildings; supervises the operation and maintenance of passenger type power mowers; and performs other duties as required.Examples of Duties:

Plans and makes work assignments for the development, maintenance and beautification of parks, playgrounds, and other recreational areas;
Conducts periodic inspections to see that parks, recreational areas, facilities, and landscaped areas are in proper condition;
Determines schedules for the application of herbicides/pesticides and assures that schedules are adhered to;
Keeps records pertaining to work activities to include chemical application job records showing hours worked, chemicals used, equipment used, areas treated, weather conditions, etc.;
Maintains tools, equipment, and materials;
Makes recommendations for improving existing recreational areas and facilities;
Prepares requisitions for materials, equipment, and supplies;
Maintains complete and accurate inventory records of pesticides/herbicides;
Makes estimates of time and labor costs;
Reviews the work of subordinates; provides training on work methods and techniques;
Inspects buildings and other park facilities for necessary repairs and initiates work orders as needed;
Reviews, prepares, and submits reports;
Maintains effective relationships with the public and provides general information as requested;
Listens to and resolves complaints;
Initiates and enforces safety regulations;
Attends division and special meetings as needed; and
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and
one (1) year and three (3) months of experience in the care, maintenance, and beautification of parks, grounds, and landscaped areas; and
two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Qualifying Supervisory Work Experience:
Work experience which includes planning, directing, assigning, and reviewing the work of others; advising subordinates on difficult program areas; timing and scheduling subordinate work; and training and developing new employees.
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license (Hawaii type 3 or equivalent).
Tests:
Applicants will be required to qualify on an oral examination.
Please note exams are held ONLY on Kaua'i. We do NOT conduct testing in other jurisdictions.

The written examination will take place on 10/1/25.
