Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Chair of Curriculum and Instruction and the Director of Teacher Education, the faculty member performs duties relative to the service of the faculty, staff, students, and the general public in carrying out functions of the School of Education. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. MISSION – Assist the university in the implementation of its Mission and the School’s Statement of Mission and Goals.
  2. ACCREDITATION – Assist the university in maintaining compliance with SACSCOC principles and standards. Assist the university in maintaining compliance with SACSCOC principles and standards and assist the Dean in the implementation of the CAEP Accreditation plan.
  3. ANNUAL PROCESS REVIEW – Assists with the annual Institutional Effectiveness and Mississippi Department of Education Program reviews for the Curriculum and Instruction programs.  
  4. ADVISEMENT – Advise students and prospective students.
  5. UNIVERSITY EVENTS – Attend scheduled university events where participation is required.
  6. STUDENT RECRUITMENT – Assists the university in recruitment activities and campus events.
  7. FACULTY MEMBER – Carry out the responsibilities of a faculty member in the undergraduate Curriculum and Instruction (Elementary Education) department. Serves as a supervisor of teacher candidates during their field experience and student teaching.
  8. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES – Perform any other responsibilities as requested by the dean.
  9. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP -- This position reports to the Chair of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Hold a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of three years of professional teaching experience in higher education or a K -12 setting.  
  • Hold or qualify to hold a current standard educator license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold a doctoral degree in Education or education-related program.
  • Experience in teaching college- level courses.
  • Excellent analytical/research, technology, and communication skills
  • A record of scholarly activity including publication

Physical Demands

  • Must possess the physical ability to actively facilitate student learning in the classroom for extended period of times
  • Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must be able to maintain office hours and perform duties in on-campus or off-campus settings.

Salary and Rank:  Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
