Job Description:

Duties Bioinformatics & HPC

• Run or develop bioinformatic pipelines (Linux/bash, Python) on UF’s HiPerGator supercomputer for metagenomic analyses.
• Work with UFIT Research Computing staff to troubleshoot and optimize large-scale data workflows.
• Laboratory Work
• Extract DNA/RNA from environmental samples and prepare libraries for metagenomics.
• Maintain lab protocols and organize sample inventories.
• Field & Logistics
• Assist in coordinating logistics for oceanographic cruises (e.g., R/V Falkor, R/V Atlantis).
• Support sample collection and field research activities.
• Outreach & Accessibility
• Participate in efforts to make science accessible to diverse communities.
• Contribute ideas for lab outreach events and digital content

Expected Salary:

$15/ hour

Minimum Requirements:

At least 2 years of college experience at a local south Florida college or university.   

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proactive and detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
• Basic Linux/Unix command-line knowledge; scripting (bash/Python) a plus.
• Interest in high-performance computing, large-scale data analysis, molecular biology, and fieldwork.
• Background in biology or computer science (or both).
• Team player with strong problem-solving abilities.
