Assistant Teaching Professor and Associate Dean of Career Services, Professional Development and External Relations

The University of Washington School of Law is seeking to hire an Assistant Teaching Professor to lead our Career Services team and teach in our JD program. The position will oversee the office of Career and Professional Development which includes, professional development, our public interest Gates program, the Gregoire program, develop relationships with external partners to support career opportunities for students in our JD and graduate programs.  In addition, this role will help support our Global Business Institute and associate clinic.  In addition, The Assistant Teaching Professor will teach Criminal Law, a foundational first-year course critical to the School curriculum and will teach our Entrepreneurial Law Clinic and other courses as defined by the School’s instructional needs.

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position - September through June of every academic year. In addition, this position may need to work during summer months due to needs with the Associate Dean role. This faculty position is promotion-eligible through the teaching professorial track. The anticipated start date is Spring Quarter 2025. 

The salary range for this position will be $12,000 - 13,750 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Faculty appointments are governed by the Faculty Code and Governance, and all faculty are required to participate in teaching, scholarship, and service appointment rules are in Chapter 24 of the

Job responsibilities:

1.           Direct and oversee the operations of the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, pairing law and business students with pro bono attorneys and advisors to provide legal and business support to early-stage entrepreneurs and other clients.

2.           Supervise and mentor law and business students participating in the clinic, ensuring high-quality client service and fostering students' practical legal and business skills.

3.           Teach the foundational first-year Criminal Law course, delivering engaging and rigorous instruction that equips students with a strong understanding of substantive criminal law principles.

4.           Lead the Office of Career Services to support students’ professional development, employment opportunities, and long-term career success in the legal field and related industries.

5.           Provide individual career counseling to students and collaborate with employers to expand internship, externship, and post-graduate job opportunities.

6.           Develop and implement innovative programming to integrate legal and business concepts within the clinic and enhance career services initiatives tailored to students' evolving career needs.

7.           Build partnerships with legal professionals, business advisors, and community organizations to support clinic operations and career services programming, promoting UW Law’s commitment to experiential learning and career readiness.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) or foreign equivalent
• Admitted to Washington Bar or ability to become admitted within one year.
