The Twist Process Development team is taking synthetic biology to the next level by developing a revolutionary and scalable technology of oligo, DNA and protein synthesis for sustainability and healthcare. The Process Development group at Twist is a diverse set of individuals who tremendously impact all Twist products and processes. We are looking for an exceptional candidate that leads and shape the team that designs software for new product development and large scale manufacturing

As the lead laboratory SW architect, you will work cross-functionally to define business scenarios, user stories, and software features for new processes and products. In this role, you will draw on your experience and critical process thinking abilities to develop and implement new software that expands on what is currently possible. The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong laboratory background with a focus on molecular biology, synthetic biology, or process engineering.
- Experience using and/or managing Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle processes
- Experience in Usability Design (UI/UX) and/or Industrial Design
- Strong background of defining product workflows across operational, analytical and software development team
What You'll Be Doing:
- Oversee Lab Software architecture development and implementation including interaction of front end UI, instrument integration and underlying data tracking
- Elicit requirements from colleagues to understand end-to-end business workflows across laboratory, inventory, manufacturing, bioanalytical and shipping processes.
- Documenting as-is and to-be states of business areas in the forms of diagrams (workflow diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, functional decomposition diagrams), prioritization matrices, business requirements documents, and technical requirements documents; uncover non-obvious needs.
- Oversee team of analysts; manage, train and mentor team members
- Incorporate quality into product design, and work closely with development and software quality assurance teams on product and process improvements.
- Understand the interconnectivity and relations between the tools, system architecture, and information architecture.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
- 5+ years of scientific development and technical transfer
- 5+ years of technical lab software project management
- B.S. or higher in Life Science or Engineering field with relevant software product management experience
- Experience with workflow mapping and requirement writing for software teams
- Experience with agile software deployments in a controlled environment (ISO, CLIA, e.g.) including integration testing, system validation, integration testing, and testing documentation
- Understanding of database design and SQL queries

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above.
