Project Overview

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 project at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This project is the design and construction of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) for the Space Launch System (SLS).

 

This position may be required to travel (up to 50%), work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment. The ability to obtain/maintain access to the facility is required. This position reports to the Lead Civil Field Engineer (LCFE).

 

Position Summary

Assigned to the Construction organization in a Nightshift Civil/Structural Field Engineer. Responsible for supporting Field Supervision and Craft personnel with material and technical documentation for permanent plant and temporary construction installations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with Design on constructability issues. Establishes a Design/Field Engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Discipline Engineers including agreement on engineering deliverables. Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Directs the Civil/Structural design of temporary construction facilities as required.
  • Coordinates the Civil/Structural interfacing between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the job site.
  • Reviews project controls documents on Civil/Structural progress relating to cost and schedule.
  • Directs activities of the Civil/Structural field engineering staff.
  • Coordinates with the Superintendents and Subcontract Technical Representatives to plan construction schedules.
  • Directs the preparation of Civil/Structural requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment. Approves Civil/Structural requisitions as assigned.
  • Plans Civil/Structural work packages following Advanced Work Package procedure.
  • Monitors, validates, and records equipment maintenance to ensure compliance with approved manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Directs preparation of cost estimates for construction activities and coordinates the preparation of cost reports, forecast, and progress reports.
  • Implements controls over Civil/Structural related variables affecting job progress to ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensures the project’s Environmental Control Plan is properly implemented.
  • Coordinates Civil/Structural field engineering work with the project Startup group as required.
  • Performs employee reviews for subordinate personnel. Assesses needs of Civil/Structural Field Engineering Training Plan for the project.
  • Ensures that subordinate personnel receive progressive training.
  • Prepares weekly narrative to the PFE detailing assigned construction work performed, schedule adherence, and open actions.
