The Pottery Barn brand packaging team is a small, tenured design team responsible for developing and implementing elevated product packaging. As the Senior Production Artist, you will execute production ready artwork and ensure brand consistency for all product categories. We are looking for someone with excellent technical skills and keen attention to detail who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Overview of the Senior Production Artist role
Pottery Barn is looking for a Senior Production Artist with 8 to 10 years of packaging production experience. This role works independently and collaboratively with the Project Management and Packaging Design teams to execute packaging for all product categories. The Senior Production Artist’s primary focus is producing technically accurate art on digital dielines as well as developing and maintaining the digital templates used in all art creation. This role has minimal design responsibilities, and our ideal candidate must have a passion for production.
Responsibilities
- Mastery of Adobe CC (Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign) and Acrobat
- Formal design education, training or experience and ADVANCED typography skills required
- Ability to create artwork and prepare final artwork for pre-press based off style guides, templates and feedback from our design team
- Can assess accuracy of vendor provided dielines and is capable of mocking-up packaging with precision for executive reviews
- Strong communication skills: able to take verbal direction, follow instructions, and remain flexible to changes
- Manages workflow for each packaging request: creation of artwork, proofing, submitting final artwork, blue line approval
- Can adapt to changing priorities and has the ability to problem solve
- Excels at multi-tasking, has excellent time management skills and works well under pressure
- Works innovatively and collaboratively with team on adjustments to branding, including effectively partnering and training packaging designers so they can maintain packaging standards
- Manages and updates all technical information in the PB Brand Packaging Brand Guidelines. Ensures the guidelines include all necessary information needed for production and design work so the guide can be used as a training tool
- Understands the business need for each project and collaborates with Director, Sr. Project Manager and Sr. Designer to make on-going decisions based on what’s best for the organization and team
- Continually reviews all current packaging templates to ensure accuracy and partners with Director to understand creative direction for new branding initiatives before developing new templates
- Creates and streamlines processes and workflows to improve production and team productivity
- Provides weekly status updates to Sr. Project Manager on all projects, evaluating progress and suggesting solutions to any outstanding issues or noting areas for process improvement
- Ability to work on premises for core working hours of department and extended hours to meet production deadlines when needed.
Criteria
- 8 to 10 years of production experience
- 3-5 years packaging-related work experience
- 3+ years of production experience in an agency environment
- Mac OS, Adobe CC, MS Office, knowledge of PLM systems, Asana and FileMaker a plus
- Experience with direct reports
- Must be detail oriented, organized, and be a self-starter
- Strong analytical skills, organized and detail oriented with ability to problem solve
- Excellent time management skills; ability to set priorities and remain flexible to changes
- BA/BS degree in a related field from an accredited college or university
- Experience working with translation agencies a plus
- Ability to perform work onsite in the (San Francisco, Rocklin, Portland, New York, San Jose) office full-time pending state, local, and Company return-to-work guidance during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The expected starting pay range for this position is $80,000 - $125,000 annually. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-relate
