About the role

Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty involving greeting and providing services to customers at recreation centers, answering phone calls, filing, entering, and retrieving data into complex computer systems, processing deposits, and providing information to the public and co-workers. Assists with training new part-time staff. Processes rentals, refunds, requests for reimbursements, and tracks and processes documents.


Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED, two years of customer service experience which involves interacting with the public in front of a desk environment, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires a valid Missouri driver’s license. Must complete required NIMS level training and CPR certification within first six months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of recreation programs, park locations and rental facilities, City of Independence historic sites and attractions. Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. General office procedures, policies, and practices, as well as basic knowledge of computer and other general office equipment. Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques. Basic understanding of accounting practices, standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals. Computer applications related to the work.
Physical Requirements: Hand dexterity to operate personal computer and other equipment related to job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, to reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.


Typical Working Conditions: Works in a normal office environment where there are little to no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like. May be occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and fumes or airborne particles. Working conditions are typically moderately quiet.
