JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Berks has an opening for a Student Health Services Nurse responsible for providing quality care services to students. The Health Services Center is staffed by a full-time nursing specialist, a nurse, and a part-time nurse practitioner.  This is a 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. Months off are mid-May to mid-August. Full Penn State benefits are included.

As a key member of the Student Affairs team, the Student Health Services Nurse will collaborate with faculty and other departmental staff to develop and sponsor numerous health and wellness educational programs for the campus community. In addition, the nurse may be asked to serve on various campus committees and attend/represent health services at special campus events. 

 

The nurse is responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Collaborating with the nursing specialist and the nurse practitioner

  • Interview, assess, and treat patients using established protocols, and assist with patient triage and problem-solving

  • Render emergency care as indicated by the protocol

  • Refer patients for further care or services as needed

  • Ensure all supplies needed for the operation of the clinic are available

  • Maintain required documentation and records

  • Additional duties that may arise in the healthcare landscape

Education & Experience:  

  • The position typically requires an Associate degree in Nursing or higher (Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred) from an accredited nursing program

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure, in good standing, as a Registered Nurse with four years of related nursing experience that is applicable to the assigned work area or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Medical office experience and experience with and an interest in working with the 18-25-year-old patient population is a plus

  • Phlebotomy skills are required

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
