Role Summary

 

About the Role: Reporting to the Global Director, External Communications & Public Relation, the Senior Specialist, Communications (R&D) will work across the Corporate R&D Team to execute impactful communications that align with the organization’s business objectives and priorities. 

 

The role requires a technical mindset and ability to take complex topics and deliver relevant communications using a variety of channels to a different audiences.  Working closely with Corporate Communications and R&D Functions, the Senior Specialist, Communications (R&D) candidate will align on various projects/ initiatives to create content and campaigns that effectively promote Magna’s R&D initiaitves, innovations and competitive advantage.  This role is also responsible for tracking and analyzing data aligned with determining the effectiveness of the communication activities.
 

Key Responsibilities

 

Your Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate R&D communications activities 
  • Mine for stories to leverage for internal and external purposes  
  • Support media related events (press conferences, media round tables, interviews, etc.)  
  • Support spokesperson participation including speechwriting, scripts, Q&As and presentations for speaking engagements
  • Coordinate R&D executive communications support including social media visibility and engagement, internal town hall/webcasts, and relevant messaging 
  • Drive integration and alignment throughout the R&D organization while using key metrics to continuously improve engagement, performance, and effectiveness
  • Work closely with internal R&D functions (HR, Marketing, etc.) to align, plan and execute communications initiatives/campaigns 
  • Manage updates to the R&D internal/external web pages 
  • Handle special projects as assigned  

Key Qualifications/Requirements


Who we are looking for: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Communications or Public Relations
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience or combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with C-level executives and across a matrixed organization
  • Strong track record of successfully developing and implementing impactful communications programs to drive engagement 
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time, can include international travel and extended travel (10-14 days)

 

Your preferred qualifications:

  • Technical background and/or experience 
  • Exceptional writing ability including a technical writing skill set
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Results oriented, strong sense of urgency, collaborative, proactive and flexible
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Digital/social media savvy
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
