Job Summary:
The School of Science at Marist University is pleased to invite applications for a full-time Physical Sciences Laboratory Coordinator to ensure the proper functioning of the Chemistry, Biochemistry, & Physics Department’s teaching laboratories by taking responsibility for: inventory control and lab/stockroom management; weekly lab set up and break down; hazardous waste management; hiring, training and supervising student lab assistants; orienting faculty and lab assistants on lab safety and exercises; instrument and equipment maintenance; and teaching one section of lab (alternating between General and Organic Chemistry) per academic year.
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field or B.S in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with >2 years of related lab experience.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with basic computer tools (e.g., spreadsheets and collaboration platforms).
- Working knowledge of the principles and practice of General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics Lab, including solution preparation, instrument calibration, proper chemical handling, and lab safety.
Essential Functions:
- Set up and break down laboratory experiments for multi-section labs, monitor and restock supplies, and manage hazardous waste collection and disposal for teaching labs.
- Communicate with instructors and student lab assistants weekly to ensure that labs are running properly and safely, and be available to assist with issues that arise during lab.
- Teach General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry labs. One section per year, alternating between courses.
- Ensure proper functioning and organized storage within the stockroom and teaching labs, and perform summer cleaning and organization.
- Manage inventory control and create orders for teaching lab supplies/consumables, chemicals, equipment, and general lab supplies and PPE.
- Help maintain a strong laboratory safety culture.
- Assist faculty with recruiting and hiring student lab assistants.
- Supervise, train, and oversee timesheet completion for student lab assistants.
- Help maintain lab-related learning management system sites to organize and disseminate faculty-created lab assignments and documents and lab prep-related materials.
- Maintain equipment and instruments, including performing weekly routine maintenance of the department’s NMR spectrometer.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field
- Prior experience teaching chemistry labs
- Prior experience maintaining an NMR spectrometer, and/or other major lab equipment

- Tuition Benefits:
- Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
- University pays 100% tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
