Reporting directly to the VP of Tax, this high-impact role offers a unique opportunity to work cross-functionally with teams including Real Estate, Tax, Legal, Finance and Operations to bring structure and visibility to a function that optimizes BJ’s financial position. The ideal candidate brings strategic thinking, hands-on execution, and the communication skills needed to capitalize on C&I opportunities effectively.

Responsibilities:

Strategy, Planning & Program Leadership

  • Research and assess eligibility for C&I programs to reduce capital costs and minimize tax obligations across BJ’s expanding jurisdictional footprint.
  • Manage BJ’s external C&I advisors currently leading negotiations, with a long-term goal of transitioning this function in-house.
  • Identify and implement tools, systems, and best practices to streamline C&I tracking, documentation, and compliance.
  • Act as the company-wide subject matter expert on C&I.

Application Management and Compliance

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of C&I including identification, application, documentation, calculation, monetization, and reporting to ensure compliance with relevant laws and accounting standards  (e.g., ASC 740).
  • Maintain a compliance calendar of C&I deadlines and reporting cycles, and monitor changes in federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations related to C&I programs.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Create and maintain a centralized pipeline of available and in-progress C&I opportunities. Provide regular updates to senior leadership on captured value, pending applications, and emerging risks.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and internal teams including Real Estate, Legal, Finance, and Operations to align C&I efforts with business strategy, build early visibility into eligible projects, educate stakeholders on available incentives, and coordinate data collection for timely filings and compliance reporting.

Reporting and Audit Readiness

  • Quantify and report secured and missed C&I opportunities.
  • Prepare audit-ready documentation for internal and external reviews.
  • Coordinate with external advisors and provide technical support to sustain BJ’s positions during audits or inquiries.
  • Recommend process improvements and technology enhancements for better C&I capture and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP or Oracle) and tax software (e.g., OneSource)
