Summary

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing day to day leadership to the Environmental Services Department (EVS). The duties include planning, scheduling, cleanliness, safety, and patient satisfaction. This position also encompasses day to day interactions with nurse managers, directors, house supervisors, infection control, and EVS/Linen staff to compliment the perfect patient experience.

Job Duties

  • Maintains knowledge regarding biohazard waste, pharmacy waste, chemo waste, and sharps disposal as well as knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Handles and manages the day-to-day operations of EVS for his/her assigned shift to include proper work assignments, proper scheduling, new employee training, maintenance of accurate employee records, and offers assistance in discipline, including terminations.
  • Initiates all supply ordering, both stock and non-stock, and cross trains to cover this process.
  • Demonstrates, trains and practices safe work habits to EVS staff.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills by team building, patient satisfaction, planning and organizing.
  • Maintains an acceptable level of quality and cleanliness that is measured through Press Ganey, HCAHPS survey results and internal audits. Ensures quality standards are met by periodic inspection and evaluation of assigned staff.
  • Manages vacation requests that do not compromise EVS staffing.
  • Assists the Director, EVS and EVS Manager as requested
