About the role

The City of Topeka is seeking a skilled SQL Database Administrator to join its Information Technology team. This position plays a critical role in managing and maintaining City’s SQL-based database systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance across all departments.

What you'll do:

  • Manage the full database management lifecycle, including design, implementation, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
  • Implement and enforce database security policies in compliance with government standards.
  • Lead or support systems integration projects.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required OR
    • An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is acceptable WITH two years of SQL Server database administration experience OR
    • A High School Diploma or its equivalent is acceptable WITH four years of SQL Server database administration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Power BI, SSRS, SAP Crystal Reports, Tableau, Dash, Cognos, or similar reporting tools is required.
  • Microsoft SQL Server certification for RDBMS databases (e.g., MCSA, MCSE) is preferred.
  • Experience in a government or public sector IT environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., CJIS, NIST, or other governmental security requirements) is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check.

Annual Entry Salary: $63,865 - $76,638
