Senior Software Engineer, Control Functions Engineering (Finance)

The Finance Control Functions (Tax) team is responsible for Taxation and other finance related functions such as Account Payable. This team builds backend Data Processing and Integration services to support these functions. These services are part of the mission critical booking flows directly impacting revenue and profits of the company; so are mission critical and require high availability. 
Team also works closely with other engineering teams handling the travel side of bookings, the app and downstream data processing. Team also interacts with other departments understanding Taxation requirements while working with vendors/APIs to build integrations. 
In this role you are responsible for building and maintaining these mission critical applications with operational excellence. Your work will directly impact booking flow, directly impacting Hopper revenue and profitability. 

Responsibilities

• Build brand new microservices to automate financial processes such as Tax Calculation, Month End reporting, month end reconciliation and payments approval automation.
• Maintain and Improve existing microservices to ensure high availability with minimal human touchpoints
• Support mission critical services such as travel booking supporting 3rd party integrations with low latency. 
• Collaborate with diverse stackholders building hopper’s travel booking experience in different areas such as lodging, flight and ground transportation
• Grok overall hopper architecture and work with the team to improve it. 
• Drive innovation for finance control team to simplify and improve their work efficiency
• Collaborate with a diverse group of people, across Engineering, Data Science, Product and Leadership, executing on big opportunities and helping Hopper rise to the top of the travel industry!

Minimum Qualifications

• University Degree and 5+ years full time work experience in backend software development 
• Alternatively 6+ years full time experience in software development
• Deep familiarity with at least one server side stack
• Excelled in an environment with cross-functional teams, working fluidly with skilled specialists from different disciplines
• Experience working in fast paced environment
• Biased towards action

Preferred Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of Web system architecture and design, at scale
• Experience working with microservice architecture
• Track record of mentoring junior engineers on industry best practices
• Worked in Agile Software Development environments (Scrum / KanBan / SAFe / LeSS)
• Experience with cloud (Google Cloud/AWS/Azure/OCI)
• Experience with JVM based languages such as Java/Scala.
• Testable Code - unit tests, integration tests, functional tests
• TDD or BDD would be a bonus
• Understands Service oriented architecture vs Monolith design
• Web system architecture design and scale - nice to have
• Domain knowledge of finance, accounting or tax would be a bonus
