Staff Application Engineer, SiC Products

onsemi is looking for an experienced engineer to join the SiC Product Division as a Staff Applications Engineer. This role is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
As a Staff Applications Engineer, you will work in a fast‑paced team that evaluates new Silicon Carbide (SiC) technologies, validates next‑generation SiC power modules for industrial markets, and supports release to production. The work includes theoretical analysis of power converter topologies, simulation, and hands‑on bench testing. You will interact with leading global customers and collaborate with teams across onsemi. You will also have a direct influence on future product roadmaps.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Evaluate and validate advanced SiC power modules
- Work in a modern, well‑equipped high‑power laboratory
- Design and test evaluation boards, and write application notes and datasheets
- Partner with marketing to create collateral and support tradeshows
- Collaborate with customers on complex power semiconductor challenges and build long‑term technical relationships
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 to 6 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 3 to 4 years of experience, or a PhD in power electronics
- Experience with power module validation is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of power converter topologies
- Solid knowledge of SiC device behavior and key tradeoffs
- Familiarity with control theory, analog circuits, power supply design, and basic digital electronics
- Experience with PCB layout, LabView, and/or Python is a plus
- Strong proficiency with SPICE simulators, SIMPLIS/Simetrix, and MATLAB or equivalent tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- This is a highly visible role and includes up to 10 percent travel to support customers worldwide.
