About the role

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Safety Manager overseeing construction projects managed from WSP's New York - One Penn Plaza office.  Potential construction site work locations may include: New York City Region – including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx, Westchester County , Long Island, and New Jersey. The candidate shall be involved in a variety of active construction projects managed by our Project Management/Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.   

Your Impact

  • 10 years or more relevant construction safety oversight experience
  • Experience with on-site safety/quality assurance including project inspections, reporting results, preparation of safety scope of work definitions for corrective action, and management of project to ensure full safety requirement compliance
  • Experience in developing construction safety plans and enforcement of construction safety protocols and requirements
  • Experience in reviewing and commenting on the contractor's Safe Work Plans
  • Experience in coordinating, conducting, and attending regularly scheduled and ad-hoc safety meetings.
    Experience in conducting field safety walkthroughs with contractors
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. 
  • Work collaboratively with other team members including sub-contractor trades, engineering professionals, and infrastructure authorities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. 
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
     

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 10 years’ experience as a safety manager of increasingly complex construction projects involving projects with multiple construction trades. 
  • Experiences in transit related projects.
  • Ability to supervise and manage subordinate safety managers and coordinating work activities of subordinate staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with public agency client’s and contractors’ safety management teams. 
  • Experience working with public agencies such as  MTA C&D (Bridges and Tunnels,  Long Island and Metro North Rail Roads), Port Authority of NY and NJ, various NYC and NYS Agencies, and Amtrak desirable.
  • Ability to concurrently manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Ability to review/approve Site Specific Safe Work Plans (SSWPs), Construction Work Plans, contractor schedules, permit and inspection requirements.  
  • Ability to work collaboratively with contractor and client safety staff.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of MTA C&D’s ASITE document control tool or similar industry standard document control tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional local travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  •    OSHA 30 Hour Certification.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $97,100 - $198,200
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
