MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Must have completed an accredited physician assistant program (Bachelors or Masters degree). Applicants may be in final year of completing this requirement with hiring dependent upon successful completion.


Experience:

PA Students completing their training are encouraged to pursue at least one rotation in Emergency Medicine and a second rotation is encouraged. Prefer, but do not require, experience in Emergency Medicine, Primary Care, Critical Care, or Urgent Care.

Knowledge, Skills

& Abilities:

Must be willing to complete 18 month training program without interruption. Must be a team player with excellent communication skills. Must be dependable and able to function independently. Must be able to multi-task and work efficiently. Must be able to function in the Electronic Medical Record. Must be able to commit to mastering various skills used on a regular basis in the department.


Licensure/Registration/Certification:

NCCPA (National Commission on Certified Physician Assistants) certification within 30 days of employment. Minnesota state licensure within 6 months of employment. Must successfully complete credentialing requirements by hospitals and third party payers, within designated time frame.


POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Highly skilled and motivated PA resident able to work in multiple environments in a busy Level I Trauma Center. PA resident will be able to manage patients from low acuity to high acuity with varying degrees of supervision. PA residents will manage patients from urgent care, critical care, general medicine, major or minor trauma to behavioral health. PA residents are assigned to rotate through different services or departments training to obtain a well-rounded education. Resident duties differ by service, but include the basic medical duties of performing histories and physicals, formulating an assessment and plan, and providing necessary treatments and procedures. All work is supervised by an attending physician.




MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND TASKS:

Assess new patients as they present to the department.

  1. History and physical exams

  2. Order and interpret necessary tests, including labs and x-rays

  3. Recommend and utilize effective treatment plan consistent with patient’s evaluation

  4. Customize discharge plan with appropriate medications and follow-up

Must be able to work effectively with supervising physicians and nursing staff.

  1. Communicate patient’s problems, treatment plan, and options to staff.

  2. Develop effective discharge plan for patients

  3. Able to communicate effectively with hospital medicine staff and specialty consultant service staff


3.

Maintain skills necessary to function in the department.

10 %

  1. Perform necessary procedures competently

  2. ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and/or CALS


4.

Educate patients

20 %

  1. Spend time educating patients regarding current diagnosis, expectations, and follow-up plans

Complete charts on time.
