JOB DESCRIPTION – Director of Human Resource Management
DEPARTMENT: Finance and Administration
SUPERVISOR: Executive Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, CFO
PURPOSE: Human Resources Director leads the HRM department. The position is responsible for overseeing a small team of employees and student workers, ensuring efficient and effective HR operations. This role requires a hands-on approach, including involvement in processing personnel transactions and providing strategic oversight to all HR functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall university strategy.
• Manage the recruitment process, including job design, advertising, interviewing, and selection.
• Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.
• Develop and implement workforce planning strategies to meet current and future staffing needs,
including succession planning and organizational design initiatives.
• Design and continuously improve on boarding and offboarding processes to support employee
integration and organizational knowledge continuity.
• Develop and coordinate training programs to support staff and leadership development, compliance, and continuous learning across campus.
• Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable HR federal, state and LSU
requirements, conducting investigations, and maintaining records.
• Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations as needed.
• Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to campus supervisors ( e.g., coaching,
counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
• Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics.
• Collaborate and work with LSU Human Resource Management (Baton Rouge Campus) on all LSU
System related initiatives, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and
increase productivity and retention.
• Provide policy guidance and interpretation as well as ensuring compliance with all labor regulations.
• Develop and implement workforce planning strategies to meet current and future staffing needs,
including succession planning and organizational design initiatives.
• Design and continuously improve onboarding and offboarding processes to support employee
integration and organizational knowledge continuity.
• Serve as a liaison or support role in ensuring institutional compliance with EEO, Title IX, and
affirmative action regulations, including coordination with relevant campus offices.
• Develop and coordinate training programs to support staff and leadership development, compliance, and continuous learning across campus.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of HR leadership.
- Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.
- Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills.
- Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels.
- Willingness to be hands-on with administrative and processing duties.
