A Day in the Life

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our engineering team, responsible for architecting, developing, and owning the backend services of our data management platform for Affera case data. You will lead complex projects and mentor junior engineers while collaborating closely with front-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver innovative and scalable solutions. Your day-to-day activities will include writing high-quality, maintainable code, driving database migrations, and ensuring the reliability and performance of our systems deployed on AWS infrastructure. 

 

About the Affera Mapping and Ablation System 

The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the heart's electrical activity, helping physicians identify abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once identified, the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals, restoring normal heart rhythm.   

 
 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Lead the development and maintenance of RESTful APIs using FastAPI, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the frontend. 

• Architect and manage database schemas and migrations using SQLAlchemy and Alembic, taking ownership of data integrity and optimization processes. 

• Design, deploy, and oversee infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, making strategic decisions to enhance system scalability and security. 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features, acting as a technical advisor to align solutions with business objectives. 

• Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests, ensuring robust test coverage and system reliability. 

• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems, proactively identifying areas for improvement and driving enhancements. 

• Conduct and lead code reviews to maintain high code quality standards, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence. 

• Mentor and guide junior developers, providing technical leadership and sharing best practices to elevate team capabilities. 
   

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.  
   

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Proven experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role. 

• Strong proficiency with Python. 

• Proficiency in deploying and managing services on AWS. 

• Experience using infrastructure as code tools, particularly Terraform. 

• Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles. 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
