Position Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week), Exempt

Work Setting: Onsite - Our shelter operation is in motion 365 days a year; staff are scheduled to work their regular shift on holidays. To keep it fair for all staff, holiday requests are considered in the order received and approved based on operational capacity

Reports To: Assistant Director of Staff Support

Pay Range: $73,527.12 - $77,250/year

Position Overview: 

JFS seeks a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Immigration Services Division as the Program Manager for Staff Support at our migrant shelter. In this role, you will use your skills and experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives. The Staff Support Manager supports all shelter on-site/remote staff and volunteers in many ways. The working hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm; with nights, weekends, and holidays as required. The Staff Support Manager will guide and mentor a passionate team of Volunteer Coordinators and Staff Support Assistant in their daily activities, including reviewing and improving internal processes while using our core values of justice, community, hope, and healing to elevate our mission. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Staff Support and collaborates closely with other shelter leadership staff, and many other members at JFS.

The successful candidate is a strong advocate for immigration rights and social and racial justice and is committed to improving outcomes for staff navigating the fast-moving shelter environment. The candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven to take on this exciting role. They will have a solid understanding of JFS shared values, experience in volunteer program development and management, and mentorship; 4+ years working with diverse teams; and relevant experience including:

  • Strong demonstrated ability to develop personal networking relationships
  • Ability to reasonably share your experiences to build trust and a sense of community
  • Knowledge and application of internal human services practices; demonstrated competency in collaboration, humility, perseverance, adaptability
  • Knowledge and experience in restorative practices, including facilitation
  • Strong sense of compassion and empathy for people navigating the quickly changing immigration system
  • Ability to identify problems and participate in team problem-solving efforts
  • Ability to work from multiple locations, with minimum supervision and function in regional activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-racially, cross-culturally, and cross-denominationally
  • Excellent organizational, listening, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate among various stakeholders (internal and external) to complete projects and activities
  • A solid understanding of and commitment to social change through building the capacity and power of people to change their communities
  • Intermediate computer skills (Outlook, Office, Teams, SharePoint) including the ability to learn new technology

Responsibilities:

  •  Support the Volunteer Coordinators team with coaching and guidance
  •  Support volunteer coordinators with volunteer recruitment
  • Provide guidance to the Volunteer Engagement Team regarding volunteer relation issues
  •  Manage the shelter’s use of the Volunteer Management Database and be able to create reports
  •  Facilitate in-person and virtual meetings
  • Develop and facilitate community partnerships and engagement presentations
  • Develop and maintain shelter position descriptions, in collaboration with Directors
  • Develop strategy for staffing needs/resources, in collaboration with Directors
  • Provide staff support and serve
