About the role
The Assistant Director of Finance – Gaming oversees the operational accounting functions and ensures that accurate financial information is provided to senior management for decision-making purposes for gaming operations. Responsibilities include revenue reconciliations, audit, tax preparation and compliance with Palms policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards, and all other regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, detail oriented, highly motivated, with the ability to execute and develop quality work as necessary with the highest standards and attention to detail. Collaboration, organization, and time management skills are key to success in this position.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the casino revenue accounting function, policies, procedures, and auditing functions.
- Ensures compliance with all federal regulatory requirements, including Title 31 and tax reporting.
- Prepares and ensures accuracy of the gaming audit revenue reporting.
- Reviews monthly financial statements and compiles review comments for follow-up.
- Ensures compliance with Minimum Internal Control Standards, Standards of Operation and Management, Sarbanes Oxley and Bank Secrecy Act reporting requirements.
- Reviews operational results for inconsistencies and communicates recommended improvements.
- Ensures the timely and accurate monthly and annual closing of the general ledger.
- Responsible for the monthly review of operating expenses and variance analysis to ensure departments are adhering to their budgets.
- Reviews and enforces internal accounting controls and assurance of compliance with SOX.
- Facilitates external and internal audits.
- Oversees the preparation of performance reports for leadership including revenue and compliance reports for all gaming areas.
- Maintains the Internal Control Submissions, updating routinely to reflect changes as they occur. Evaluates and analyzes revenue data and reconciles cash discrepancies by researching and correcting variance problems.
- Responsible for assisting in the selection and implementation of new or upgraded software for accounting and other gaming related software.
- Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles in casino accounting.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or similar field of study preferred.
- Certified Public Accountants (CPA) license preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Audit, Accounting, Fraud, Risk, Compliance, or other professional investigative or risk-based experience is required.
- Intermediate knowledge of Title 31 Banking Secrecy Act Regulations required.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software, database software and casino operating systems preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant, and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
- Demonstrated experience developing department goals and action plans in accordance with property and overall company goals.
- Excellent verbal, written and executive level presentation skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office setting.
- Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
- Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
