Job Description Summary:

(Prosecutorial Paralegal)
Under general supervision, this non-exempt position performs a wide variety of paralegal duties, with occasional legal clerical work, in a municipal prosecution law practice, including but not limited to file keeping, responding to discovery requests, assisting the preparation of cases for trial, contacting victims regarding restitution, and being the primary front-office presence. Duties of the position include drafting legal documents, conducting research (legal and other) and analysis, and providing a full range of paralegal support to accomplish City of Boulder objectives.

Job Description:

PROSECUTION PARALEGAL

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates the administrative workflow of the prosecution division of the Boulder City Attorney’s office.

  • Ensures timely responses to requests for electronic discovery from pro se defendants and defense attorneys.

  • Assists prosecutors in case preparation by reviewing casefiles and subpoenaing necessary witnesses for trial and administrative hearings.

  • Contacts victims and coordinates restitution requests.

  • Files both routine and occasional pleadings in the Boulder Municipal Court and State Court with proper training and supervision. 

  • Attends sessions of court and screen defendants for potential diversion.

  • Creates appropriate model forms/templates and training City employees in the use of these forms.

  • Conduct research into a wide variety of municipal matters as assigned. 

  • Works cooperatively and supportively as part of a team.

  • Participates regularly in professional trainings and development.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knows and complies with City and department policies and adheres to attendance and workplace attire policies.

  • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents.  Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. 

  • Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. 

  • Reports all accidents and damage to City property.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ability to be organized, accurate and successfully manage frequently changing priorities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidentially orally and in writing, including ability to prepare professional, concise and grammatically correct written documents.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various representatives of public or private entities, policy making bodies, and members of the public.

  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives.

  • Ability to obtain a working knowledge of laws, legal codes, procedures, practices, precedents, regulations, and agency rules of the law practice area within the introductory period.

  • Ability to obtain a working knowledge of policy, legislative and charter requirements sufficient to support attorneys on matters that encompass a wide variety of municipal law issues within the introductory period.

  • Ability to obtain a working knowledge of principles and practices of general law sufficient to collaborate with attorneys and other paralegals within the introductory period.

  • Ability to work under pressure and appropriately prioritize and meet varying and stringent deadlines. 

  • Knowledge of issue analysis and other relevant techniques sufficient to gather information and formulate appropriate recommend
