JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanic II maintains and repairs machinery and equipment ( e.g.- Blenders, Fluid Beds, Film Lines, Grinders, Sifters and other production machinery). This employee has the responsibility to report food safety hazards or personnel safety concerns to their immediate supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities:
- Observes mechanical devices and listens to their sounds to locate cause of trouble
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments
- Repairs and/or replaces defective parts including installation of special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Starts devices to test their performance
- Sets up and operates drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
- Maintains and documents preventative maintenance program
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical equipment
- Initiates purchase order for parts
- Performs troubleshooting, breakdown maintenance, welding and preventative maintenance on downstream equipment (e.g. – Production equipment)
- Competency with hand tools, power tools, welding and machine shop equipment
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Maintains all assigned safety trainings
- Maintains all PPE needed for one’s job performance and safety
- Works independently and with other Team members
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience Required:
- A minimum of three to five years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of food processing equipment in a manufacturing environment or equivalent experience
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions finished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to work with amino acids, vitamins and fine chemicals in powder and liquid form as well as allergen products.
Language, Computer & Numeracy:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and written
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs

Physical Demands:
- Regularly involves talking or listening, sitting, and the use of hands and fingers.
- Regularly involves going up and down stairs.
- Frequently involves reaching with hands and arms, standing and walking.
- Occasionally involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing.
