Position Summary:

•  The Senior Molecular Consultant is responsible for evaluating, applying, and implementing genomic and molecular diagnostic technologies in the UCH pathology laboratory for clinical and research purposes.  
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and partners, providing expert consultation and designing studies related to molecular diagnostic projects and initiatives.  
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including physicians, medical staff, research scientists, and lab technicians, to develop and implement strategic plans that address client needs and achieve project objectives.
• The Senior Molecular Consultant is responsible for the hands-on performance of different aspects of molecular biological tasks, development activities, and testing procedures in both research and clinical molecular laboratory environments. This includes receiving and processing specimens as per established Standard Operating Procedures (i.e., SOPs). Must be able to independently operate sophisticated equipment, liquid handlers, and analytical instruments in a regulated environment. This individual may assist in introducing new materials, methods, processes and equipment. The Senior Molecular Consultant may assist the laboratory team in documenting and implementing new production process workflows. 
• Primary duties also include the ability to review and synthesize complex scientific literature. Must be able to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to develop ideas. Responsible for creating communication materials and presentations to the level of a target audience. 
• Other duties as assigned.   

Key Results Areas (KRAs):

• Responsible for assigned molecular laboratory projects. These projects may include comparative studies, clinical site studies, nucleic acid isolations, quantitation, quality assessments, genomic sequencing, etc.
• Ability to utilize Laboratory Information Management System and sample tracking.
• Manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments and equipment related to clinical studies.
• Plans work and completes job responsibilities in an efficient, independent and productive manner.
• Understands, applies, and supports departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
• Attends departmental meetings, training sessions and in-services offered to improve job performance and expand knowledge.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

• PhD or Masters in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, or related biological degree required.
• Ten (10) years of relevant research and/or clinical laboratory experience.

Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions:

• This position operates in both a research and clinical lab environment
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend and walk. The employee must be capable of occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds where applicable
