Position Summary:
The LEVEL II Extrusion Technician is responsible for carrying out the production of medical grade extruded tubing in a safe and proper manner helping to improve quality, reduce scrap to meet all task and cycle time requirements. These primary responsibilities of the Extrusion Technician are firmly based in the manufacture of tubing to customer given specifications - which will differ from customer to customer, part to part and by material – LEVEL I and LEVEL II Concentrations; The Extrusion Technician will learn and be expected to grasp the application of lean tools, investigation / problem solving techniques together with scientific plastics processing philosophies utilized for; gaining / recording efficiencies, capturing process improvement ideas, sustaining 5S, value stream commitments, Kanban attainments, and 3P / SMED production preparation strategies to ensure continuous flow of quality products to expected schedule and or the specific task at hand.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Run at least one of the following with assistance from a Level III or higher: bump, multi-lumen/profiles, braided tubing, vacuum, co-ex/tri-layer, or tight tolerance/thin wall tubing (<.002" wall thickness or +/-.0005" tolerance)
- Ability to set up / maintain any auxiliary equipment (i.e. auxiliary heaters, spools, pay-off, take up systems etc.) for a given line
- Debugging and modifying of single lumen/single layer process as required without assistance.
- Maintain all paperwork properly with no support
- Run all testing equipment (moisture, elongation, shrinkage, burst, cut on laithe, peel test)
- Sets up single lumen/single layer extrusion jobs, verifies correct pin, tool and dies are used per the work order and customer drawing without assistance.
Qualifications:
To perform job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required/preferred.
- Successful completion of high school, GED or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience as an operator, or manufacturing associate.
- Mechanical, machine operating or extrusion experience (preferred).
- Excellent (written and verbal) communication, human interaction skills.
- Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals
- Able to convert units of measurement, add, subtract multiplication and division.
- Can do attitude, respectful, works ethically, creates supportive environment
- Can work with any measurement system / equipment / various techniques
- Confirmed that all Technician Level I competencies are met in addition to the following
- 1 year experience minimum at Level I Technician
- Can run at least one of the following with assistance from a Level III or higher: bump, multi-lumen/profiles, braided tubing, vacuum, co-ex/tri-layer, or tight tolerance/thin wall tubing (<.002" wall thickness or +/-.0005" tolerance)
- Able to set up any auxiliary equipment (i.e. auxiliary heaters, spools, etc.) to their line
- Debugging and modifying of single lumen/single layer process as required without assistance.
- Experienced to run 3 different extruders (like for like machines do not count)
- Have demonstrated experience with a minimum of 3-5 different products
- Have demonstrated experience with a minimum of 5 different raw material resins
- Maintain all paperwork properly with no support
- Run all testing equipment (moisture, elongation, shrinkage, burst, cut on lathe, peel test)
- Sets up single lumen/single layer extrusion jobs, verifies correct pin, tool and dies are used per the work order and customer drawing without assistance.
