Position Summary

The Ghanbarpour Laboratory, situated in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washington University in St. Louis, School of Medicine, is currently seeking a Research Technician II with expertise in cell biology or microbiology. Our research is dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms of ATP-dependent AAA+ proteolytic machines in both bacterial systems and human mitochondria. We aim to explore how these complexes form and achieve substrate specificity through a variety of methods including cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), biochemical assays, mass spectrometry, and cellular assays.

This position will assist with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 4 years.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
