Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position This position is responsible for completing accounting related system balancing work, reconciliations to ensure both data integrity and accounting accuracy, management of selected suspense account reconciliations and various other accounting duties, such as various assigned statutory accounting duties and retained assets accounting.  Consistency in the performance of these duties is key. In this capacity, it is critical the incumbent provide quality, hands-on attention to the accuracy of underlying systems, general ledger balances/entries, corporate objectives, deadlines for assigned statutory responsibilities.  The position is expected to provide accurate, timely and quality accounting work using available tools, including Excel, data warehouses and the Company’s general ledger. The position also requires sufficient familiarity with Reinsurance and TPA agreements, as well as the Company’s administrative systems (such as LifeComm, TAI, Enterprise Data Warehouse, etc), related to the performance of duties.

Responsibilities


  • Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly Close entries
  • Manual accounting for multiple coinsurances and TPA agreements
  • Monthly/Quarterly closing journals 
  • Accounting and Finance related work
  • Monthly/Quarterly account reconciliations
  • Fulfill various audit requests
  • Documentation and filing
  • Prepare, calculate and/or validate reports sent by/to TPAs
  • Prepare wire transfers and journals
  • Various project work
  • Quarterly and Annual Statutory Work
  • Assist with various general account and separate account statutory statements and exhibits as assigned
  • Assist with related internal and external audits

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, with a CPA designation preferred.
  • Two to five years of applicable experience, preferably in the insurance environment, is required. 
  • This position requires high level critical thinking skills, a working knowledge of GAAP accounting, Statutory reporting for reinsurance, general ledgers, accounting related systems & databases and operational accounting process flows.
  • The incumbent must also be able to understand the workings and detail of underlying administrative systems.
  • The position must have a heightened sense of urgency and is expected to be at a level beyond just reporting and/or balancing numbers and data. 
  • The incumbent must have the ability to identify, understand and make accurate evaluations and/or corrections for unusual fluctuations, variances and/or errors.  While understanding the larger picture is important, being detail-oriented is extremely critical for this position to succeed.
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $59,500 to $75,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.This position also offers additional incentive opportunities [through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance] OR [through cash compensation as part of a sales incentive plan (SIP).
