As an Electronics Hardware Engineer for GE Vernova Advanced Research, you will work with and support engineers in executing various power electronics related projects for GE Vernova applications. You need to be comfortable with designing and populating printed circuits, populating wiring enclosures, fabricating inductors, and designing fixtures for evaluation of power conversion systems. You will design and validate advanced embedded systems and power electronics hardware, working across FPGA, MCU, DSP platforms, as well as different types of power devices at wide range of power levels. The role requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals, hands-on lab skills, and experience with high-speed board design.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Design and commission power and signal interface circuits and corresponding printed circuit boards (PCB) for controllers and instrumentations applied in power conversion systems
Perform schematic capture and PCB layout for complex embedded and power electronics boards.
Procure, fabricate, and assemble electrical and mechanical components, subsystems and complete system assembly of engineering prototypes for research programs
Design fixtures, electrical and electronic subsystems, instrumentation, data acquisition, mechanical and thermal subsystems, that facilitate the evaluation of electrical systems intended for a wide variety of applications
Perform signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC analysis for high-speed and mixed-signal designs.
Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and systems teams for end-to-end hardware integration.
Develop and implement test procedures for electrical systems and document performance characteristics.
Troubleshoot and solve electrical and mechanical problems where objectives are clearly defined but course of action must be considered and determined
Be responsible for the maintenance of standard laboratory equipment and facilities including calibration of instruments and monitoring devices
Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines and compliance policies
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience with a primary focus in technology applied to power electronics and/or embedded systems or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience with a primary focus in technology applied to power electronics and/or embedded systems
- Experience in designing and commissioning of electrical/electronic circuits and printed circuit board (PCB) layout applied in power conversion systems with considerations on signal fidelity, noise, EMI/EMS, and thermal management
- Substantial experience in the design of test fixtures, including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and instrumentation technologies. Proficiency with lab validation tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers).
- Working knowledge of low, medium & high voltage electrical distribution
- Working knowledge of the electrical codes and standards that apply to large scale energy systems
- Safety First mindset – proactively keeps an eye out for safety issues with initiative to stop work as needed.
- Familiarity with Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Safety Programs and LOTO Compliance.
- Familiarity with Arc Flash analysis and testing.
