Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent 1 at Shelbyville FWA for The Office of Land Management. This position will participate in groundskeeping and landscaping duties, provide training to assigned staff, maintain site vehicles and equipment, coordinate and manage the areas used for controlled hunts, and conduct drawings for entry into dove fields and waterfowl sub-impoundments.  Shelbyville FWA is located along the Kaskaskia and West Okaw rivers near Sullivan and offers some of the best hunting, river fishing, and nature study opportunities in Illinois. The area contains more than 6,000 acres of mixed habitats including forests, prairies, restored grasslands, old fields, brush, wetlands, rivers, streams and cropland in the upper reaches of the 34,000-acre Lake Shelbyville project area.   We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.

Essential Functions

• Under general supervision of the Site Superintendent at Shelbyville State Fish and Wildlife Area and its satellites, directs and participates in site maintenance and groundskeeping activities and improvements.
• Serves as working supervisor.
• Directs and participates in the operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Monitors and directs site staff in organizing and running outdoor recreational programs including camping, Natural Resource programs such as hunting, fishing, and wildlife observation.
• Assumes full responsibility of operations and planning during the Site Superintendent’s absence.
• Participates and supervises the activities of the subordinate staff engaged in inspecting site and satellites for safety hazards such as flooding, downed trees, malfunctioning maintenance equipment, damaged day use equipment, and facilities. 
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree with courses in parks and recreation, natural resource administration or public administration and one year's related functional supervisory experience.
