Equinix Global Energy Team is responsible for the full lifecycle of energy strategy, procurement, operations, and analytics for Equinix global energy programs. Our global footprint includes more than 280 datacenters across the globe with more than 500K interconnections and more than 310 Fortune 500 Utilizing our services.
The Senior Manager, Clean Energy & Innovation will lead the structuring and negotiation of complex energy offtake agreements to drive Equinix’s clean energy strategy across its portfolio of data centers. The role encompasses oversight of all commercial responsibilities associated with identifying, de-risking and executing wholesale clean energy transactions, and works closely with other Energy functions to integrate clean energy supply into retail energy supply agreements. The Senior Manager will also support new powered land opportunities by partnering with utilities and technology providers to implement innovative grid-based solutions to unlock or accelerate new data center capacity.
Responsibilities
Clean Energy Origination: Develop and execute clean and renewable energy procurement efforts across the Equinix's data center portfolio, including next generation energy solutions to secure reliable, cost effective and sustainable energy supply
Commercial Structuring: Oversee the commercial structuring and negotiation of wholesale and retail energy agreements, including physical and virtual PPAs, in close coordination with internal and external legal partners
Grid Innovation: Partner with utilities and technology providers to develop innovative solutions to unlock or accelerate data center capacity using BESS, demand response and/or other distributed energy resources
Co-siting & Onsite Power Generation: Participate in commercial evaluations of near- or onsite power generation solutions to provide primary power, bridge power or grid resiliency services
Market Analysis and Strategy: Work closely with the Public Policy and Government Affairs team to monitor and analyze ever-changing energy policy and regulation trends
Skills & Attributes
Technical: Strong understanding of energy systems, carbon free and renewable technologies, conventional generation assets, transmission system and capacity market dynamics, and sustainability practices
Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills, with experience in managing complex contracts and relationships with suppliers, regulatory bodies and partners
Customer Centric: Skilled at building relationships cross-functionally, orchestrating Energy activities across the enterprise to deliver value and anticipate the customer needs
Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated ability to create an environment of innovation, growth, and improvement at scale
Qualifications
7+ years in clean energy development or origination, preferably with a data center, utility or IPP
Bachelor’s degree in Energy, Engineering, Business, or a related field
Experience negotiating complex contracts, such as PPAs or BESS tolling agreements, and leading the commercial structuring of wholesale and retail energy supply solutions
Experience managing external vendor relationships and working collaboratively to identify creative solutions across regulated and deregulated energy markets
Knowledge or experience with power generation technologies such as fuel cells and gasturbines, BESS technologies, demand response and/or other distributed energy resources
