Job Description:

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

We are hiring for one full-time, permanent position located in John Day, Oregon.

What you will do:

In this position, you will develop and oversee summer steelhead and Chinook salmon escapement, productivity, adult, juvenile and habitat monitoring in the John Day Basin.  In addition, you will be responsible for coordinating monitoring, permitting, consultation, and reporting activities with multiple collaborating agencies.  Results of this monitoring will assure that salmonid conservation and restoration activities are conducted in the most effective and scientifically sound manner and that population status is assessed over time.  Duties include:

• Administer and coordinate project operations

• Participate in collection of scientific data in streams in Northeast Oregon

• Prepare budgets

• Write progress reports, technical reports and scientific publications

• Public speaking and making presentations on natural resource issues

• Supervision and mentoring of employees

This position requires the successful candidate to have a Boater Education Card or obtain one within six months of hire, and may requires use of a state-issued SPOTS card.
