Job Description Summary

This position reports to the Regional Business Manager (RBM) and serves Diagnostic Solutions (DS) accounts within the designated region while collaboratively supporting US DS business goals. The Clinical Microbiology/Molecular Specialist (CMS) is responsible for observing current clinical and laboratory practices, aligning best practice processes, and recommending appropriate BD solutions while driving clinical effectiveness and promoting measurable customer success. This is a field-based and customer facing position requiring excellent time management skills with up to 75% travel.

Physical demands: Sitting, bending, standing, and walking for long periods of time.

PRIMARY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:  

  • Fosters a continually evolving partnership between DS and our valued customers in a clinical process and solution advisory capacity

  • Maintains relevant clinical knowledge and continually grows innovative expertise as diagnostic products/platforms evolve

  • Recognizes customer needs and gaps, and identifies BD solution opportunities using pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical differentiators

  • Facilitates multidisciplinary involvement within the healthcare setting to identify and engage key opinion leaders, influencers, and other stakeholders (nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, quality, infection prevention, clinicians) while identifying critical areas for improvement

  • Delivers clinical and product presentations and collaboratively works with BD associates to drive business initiatives

  • Facilitates project processes as appropriate using standard methodologies and financial analysis to help achieve identifiable outcomes

  • Leads and partners in organizational change discussions (clinical responsiveness, antimicrobial stewardship)

  • Fosters on-going customer relationships to ensure continuous partnerships and quality enhancements through BD solutions

  • Strong foundational knowledge of clinical microbiology and laboratory diagnostics and relevancy to healthcare challenges and outcomes;

  • Strong customer rapport with key opinion leaders; Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve organizational goals

  • Responsible for encouraging and maintaining dedication for balanced engagement, happiness, and outcomes

  • Ability to connect and collaborate across healthcare interdisciplinary teams

  • Strong laboratory medicine insight and/or clinical pharmacy knowledge

  • Regarded as a laboratory diagnostics OR pharmacy leader with strong clinical skills;

  • Experience in collaborating with C-suite level leaders

  • Knowledge of creating strategic plans and setting targets and how to implement them effectively

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree in clinical laboratory science or related degree and ASCP certification with preferred advanced degree OR a licensed clinical pharmacist

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience clinical or laboratory leadership experience with direct reports OR effective leading without authority using change management tactics

  • Basic knowledge of Hospital and Laboratory IT (LIS data)

  • Lean experience preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications, including but not limited to Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

  • Ability to travel 75% of the time within region
