Position Overview

This position is responsible for assisting the district Roadside Management Specialist in administrating the operation and maintenance of the district's rest area facilities. 

Essential Functions

  • Makes physical documented inspections of all district interstate rest areas on a weekly basis, personally performs minor rest area equipment/appurtenance repairs, assists with the development of planting beds or pots at the rest areas and assists with the planting or upkeep as needed, schedules meetings with appropriate contract maintenance personnel in order to discuss operational, maintenance, or personnel problems.
  • Ensures the proper administration and conformance of maintenance contracts for the efficient maintenance of rest area facilities.
  • Ensures the timely scheduling of vital equipment or service repair for the efficient operation of rest area facilities.
  • Ensures the effectiveness of Rest Area Maintenance Crew work schedules.
  • Ensures for their safety through proper training and working procedures.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of engineering experience.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Ability to supervise contractual employees.
  • Experience and skills necessary to complete minor building and facility repairs.
