Mine Engineering/Geology Intern (Summer 2025)

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an Environmental Geology Intern for Summer 2025 who is passionate about sustainability, driven by curiosity and keen to grow, learn, develop and thrive in our high-performance culture. This opportunity will be a 10-week, paid internship beginning May 27th, 2025. 

 

This internship will be based at our site in Golden, CO with opportunities to travel to various local sites throughout the program. This role is ideal for students passionate about geology, environmental stewardship, and strategic mine planning.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

As an Environmental Geology Intern, you will work closely with our geology and mine planning teams to support the development and implementation of environmentally sound mining practices. You will gain hands-on experience in mine planning, geological surveying, and environmental monitoring.

• Mine Planning Support: Assist in the development and refinement of mine plans, ensuring alignment with environmental regulations and company sustainability goals.
• Geological Assessments: Conduct geological assessments and contribute to the planning of extraction activities, including the optimization of resource recovery and land use.
• Environmental Monitoring: Analyze environmental data and prepare reports on findings, providing recommendations for mitigation measures if needed.

• Geological Surveying: Participate in fieldwork, conducting geological surveys and mapping to support mine planning and environmental compliance.

• Data Management and Reporting: Manage geological and environmental data, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for planning and compliance purposes.

• Safety Protocols: Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with Holcim standards.
• Skill Application: Utilize a range of skills and knowledge in day-to-day operations, working collaboratively to achieve team and company goals.
• Executive Presentation: At the end of your internship, you'll present your learnings and contributions to our executive leadership team.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for enthusiastic students who meet the following criteria:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Geology, Environmental Engineering or similar field.
• Strong academic performance with a solid understanding of engineering principles.
• Geographic flexibility to work at various sites.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• High energy and a proactive approach to tackling new challenges.
• A team player who can collaborate across different levels of the organization.
• Willingness to spend significant time in the field, gaining hands-on experience and firsthand knowledge of our business operations.

SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT

• Work Schedule: This is an onsite role with a mandatory 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, working an 8-hour shift each day.
• Work Environment: You will be working in various aggregate environments, which includes exposure to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, and various weather conditions.
• Transportation: Interns are responsible for their own transportation to and from their worksites.
• Travel: Throughout the internship, you may need to travel to other sites for tours, shadowing experiences, or intern events.
