Mechanical Engineering Specialist, Senior

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in support of critical infrastructure for our client. You will leverage your extensive expertise in industrial and commercial HVAC and plumbing system design, operations, maintenance, repair, and construction work. This role is responsible for leading complex mechanical projects from conception through completion, ensuring all systems are designed, installed, and maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance.

In this position, you will oversee and coordinate activities with trade shops, including prioritizing work, reviewing ongoing projects, inspecting installed equipment, and overseeing and coordinating work orders, service orders, and projects. You'll plan, conduct, and direct projects or major phases of significant projects and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff, as well as manage project design or construction efforts, including scheduling, funding, and day-to-day project oversight. In this role, you'll manage and evaluate construction contractor performance, integrate and coordinate projects with field personnel, evaluate, validate, and manage project change requests, and provide official weekly project status reports. 

Additionally, this position will assist the client's contracting officer (CO) and contracting officer's technical representative (COTR) with acquisition planning, execution, and administration. You'll assist the CO and COTR with conducting pre-bid and pre-construction site visits with the COTR; provide invoice supporting information to the COTR for payment, prepare and monitor project schedules, assist with budgets, provide technical guidance and assistance on contracting and construction issues, direct design efforts, recommend construction documents for approval, and oversee any follow-on maintenance programs. You will optimize performance, cost, and schedule by ensuring project objectives are achieved on schedule and at the lowest cost compatible with user requirements. You'll ensure timely input of all data, comments, and documentation into the MAXIMO software project management tool, and ensure the integration of all systems, including information technology, telephone, security, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a facilities professional

  • 2+ years of experience in an assigned field, including high voltage power, mechanical systems, fire protection, or construction

  • Experience with the implementation or execution of design documents

  • Experience reviewing design documentation and identifying deficiencies, inaccuracies, and noncompliance issues with the design intent

  • Ability to evaluate conditions and draft engineering memos that provide sound engineering guidance consistent with industry best practices and all federal, state, and local codes

  • Ability to review and perform engineering calculations

  • TS/SCI clearance with polygraph

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience managing project design or construction efforts, including scheduling, funding, and day-to-day project oversight 

  • Experience with MAXIMO 

  • Experience with new and existing building systems, site surveys, and calculations 

  • Experience with HVAC system design and building codes

  • Knowledge of the ASHRAE standards, International Building Code, and pertinent NFPA publications related to mechanical systems 

  • Knowledge of CAD systems, AutoCAD, or Revit

  • Ability to oversee and coordinate activities with the trade shops, including prioritization of work, review of ongoing projects, and inspection of installed equipment 

Clearance:
