Staff Development Coordinator

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Supervised by:  Director of Nursing

Positions Supervised: Assists managers in supervising staff from an education perspective.

Interrelationships: Patients, family, IDT and other health care team members

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Staff Development Coordinator ensures staff recognition and employee appreciation; facilitates a training environment that reflects Hospice's philosophy and standards of care; and plans, develops, implements and evaluates staff training programs and activities. This position focuses primarily on staff education and training.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational/Degree: Associates or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferred.  Degree in healthcare strongly preferred.

Training/Licensure: Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Demonstrated ability in or application of organizational/communication skills and leadership skills. Ability to deal effectively with high levels of stress. Ability to enlist cooperation of many people in furthering a program.

Experience: At least two (2) years of administrative experience in a Hospice or other Healthcare program.

Ability to perform the following tasks if necessary:

  • Ability to participate in physical activity.
  • Ability to work for an extended period while standing and being involved in physical activity.
  • Moderate lifting.
  • Ability to do extensive bending, lifting and standing on a regular basis.

 

Mental Requirements:

Must be able to work independently, make judgments based on information available and act accordingly. Must be willing to make decisions based on what is best for the entire Hospice IDT.  Must be flexible, innovative and possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability.

Working Conditions:

Be able to tolerate exposure to elements including, but not limited to, odors, blood, body fluids and excrements, adverse environmental conditions and hazardous materials.

 

Transportation:

Must have a current valid driver’s license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assigns, tracks, creates and implements ongoing staff education/training; includes 12 hours annually for STNA’s.
  2. New employee orientation and training.
  3. Develops training programs based on needs given to him/her by other team members and needs assessments performed. Must work efficiently and creatively to develop new training/learning modules for current issues.
  4. Conducts employee engagement and staff recognition activities on a routine basis; including years of service, birthdays, employee of the month, intermittent one on one employee engagement meetings, etc.
  5. Manage uniform orders, coordinate embroidery and provide staff with uniforms as assigned by the Administrator.
  6. Documents all education for all departments within Hospice’s e-learning system.
  7. Assists in the development of QAPI activities with appropriate data collection, aggregation, analysis, acting, tracking/trending and reporting of results per Hospice's QAPI plan.
  8. Consistently follows Hospice policies and procedures to set an example for employees.
  9. Attends pertinent continuing education programs other than routine in-services and shares information with staff.
  10. Assists employees to support policies and achieve necessary changes.
  11. Uniformly enforces policies and procedures.
  12. Maintains two-way communication with employees and fair administration of personnel policies.
  13. Participates in personal professional growth and development.
  14. Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication.
  15. Coordinates with other program areas and management as appropriate.
  16. Maintains current knowledge of local trends and issues.
  17. Ability to efficiently and effectively utilize iPad, laptop, PC, and EMR system, among other technological components of the job.
