Job Summary
Performs general maintenance, upkeep and cleaning of various park areas and hard surface public plaza’s including trash removal, debris removal, animal waste cleanup etc; performs landscape maintenance including mowing, watering, pruning, weed control, snow removal, and facility/equipment repairs; operates a variety of motorized equipment; operates a variety of hand and power tools. Performs underground utility locates following all “811 DIG” policies and regulations on Park properties and maintained ROW’s. Depending on assigned district, employee may be responsible for upkeep and maintenance of areas surrounding public buildings and grounds. Performs site cleanup, upkeep and maintenance on skateparks and surrounding landscapes.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma
- Experience operating hand and power tools, light trucks, tractors, used in the field of park / athletic field maintenance.
- Two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance.

- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully.

- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,
AND
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred Requirements
- Supervisory experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and experience in the upkeep and maintenance of parks including landscaping knowledge and sprinkler systems.
- Basic math skills to lay out soccer / football fields and base placement for baseball / softball at athletic facilities.
- Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards and only limited standardization, and have the decision-making ability to achieve the required job results while adhering to specified, acceptable standards, alternatives, and technical practices.
- Ability to use required safety equipment and take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and general public.
- Experience handling difficult situations using tact, patience, and good judgment.
- Ability to work various weekends and holidays.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently, as well as with others.
- Ability to follow established safety policies and practices.
Essential Functions
- Performs general upkeep and cleaning of park facilities.
- Performs landscape maintenance including, but not limited to, mowing, watering, pruning, weed control, etc.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains irrigation equipment.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains various types of playground equipment.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains other parks-related equipment including, but not limited to, lighting, security cameras, etc.
- Lays sod.
- Sets up and tears down event-specific equipment and facilities.
- Performs maintenance and safety inspections of parks facilities.
- Operates and performs minor maintenance on power equipment used in park maintenance.
