Position:

Pioneering Medicines is seeking a highly motivated experienced, innovative leader with deep subject matter expertise & scientific acumen in cardiovascular/cardiometabolic disease drug discovery (CVD/CVMD). In this role, you will lead a research team focused on developing novel therapies. You will work across several functional teams to support all aspects of drug discovery, preclinical research to early clinical development  to progress a pipeline of innovative therapies to address serious cardiovascular, cardiometabolic unmet needs.

This position is on-site in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate creative thinking to identify novel targets through target identification/validation, lead optimization, preclinical support of the research programs in cardiovascular/cardiometabolic areas
• Set strategies for identifying novel pathways and mechanisms within cardiovascular, cardiometabolic fields
• Work on mechanistic studies for proof of concept and target validation through preclinical and early clinical
• Develop biomarker strategy and translational studies
• Participate in external partnerships, consultation, and collaboration efforts with CROs to advance pipeline programs in cardiovascular and cardiometabolic fields.
• Lead world-class, cutting-edge research effort in cardiovascular and cardiometabolic areas that promotes collaborative culture both internally and externally, with a focus on designing mechanistic studies with a goal to facilitate robust, efficient decision-making to drive results
• Utilize strong communication skills to influence and ensure our flagship pioneering medicines ecosystem and external partnerships align

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D or M.D/Ph.D in Cardiovascular, Cardiometabolic , Cardio-renal or related areas
• Outstanding track record in academia with deep scientific experience & translation related to drug development 
• Subject matter expertise in both invitro assays, 3D organoids, and in vivo models, in cardiovascular and cardiometabolic physiology and pathophysiology.
• Record of accomplishment of initiating programs in discovery setting and driving to the clinic 
• Deep understanding of cardiovascular, and cardiometabolic biology
• Experience building strong teams
• Ability to motivate, influence, develop/mentor others, leading by example through scientific /technical expertise
• Experience presenting clear and compelling scientific and business cases

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of industry experience
• Experience leading drug discovery and development in cardiovascular/cardiometabolic areas in pharma/biotech industries
• Experience working with small molecules & antibodies with appreciation for multi-modalities approach to target novel challenging targets
• Hands on experience in cardiovascular and cardiometabolic progressing innovative therapies
