Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in history, art history, museum studies, humanities, anthropology, or a related field; OR four (4) years’ full-time paid experience working as a curator in a professional museum setting
  • At least two years’ work experience in a museum setting.
  • Must be available to work some nights and weekends.

Preferences:

  • Experience working in a historic house museum.
  • Knowledge of care, management, and exhibition of historical objects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cares for and manages The Grove Museum’s collections, including completing annual inventories required by Florida Statutes. Performs regular monitoring of environmental conditions of all on-site and off-site collections storage and display areas and maintains all related records.
  • Supports daily museum operations, including light housekeeping, giving guided tours, leading or supporting programs, and event set-up and break-down.
  • Research museum collections, create temporary and permanent exhibits, respond to public requests for information about The Grove Museum’s collections, and create content for social media, websites, and other printed and digital materials
  • Support collections care, management, and curatorial work at other Bureau of Historical Museums sites, including the Knott House Museum, Union Bank Museum, and Mission San Luis.

  • Knowledge of American history and museum collections management best practices.
  • Ability to discuss history with the public.

  • Ability to understand pertinent rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work in spaces and with objects that might be dirty or dusty.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, stretch, and/or twist.
  • Ability to perform light housekeeping duties, such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning restrooms.
  • Ability to lift, move, carry, and/or push items weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to understand and follow established procedures and policies.
  • Proficiency in standard office software.
