JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision manages, creates, delivers, and assesses exercise and nutrition programs for law enforcement. Delivers personal training to police officers, cadets, and civilian employees.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage, design, deliver and evaluate functional conditioning programs for law enforcement officers, recruit officers and civilian employees.

  • Provide individual consultations and customized programs for employees based on personal circumstances.

  • Effectively organize and communicate instructions to individuals and large groups.



OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to observe, evaluate and document individual and group performance measures.

  • Adapt exercise routines to accommodate for injury and health conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • Skill in leading exercise routines for individuals and groups.

  • Ability to properly assess physical condition and customize training plans to meet individual needs. 

  • Ability to design progressive functional fitness programs for all segments of the population.

  • Ability to coordinate one-on-one and group training sessions utilizing varied training paradigms.

  • Skill in Excellent interpersonal skills. Great motivator with the ability to identify intrinsic and extrinsic 

  • factors.

  • Knowledge of injury prevention principles as it relates to physical conditioning.

  • Knowledge of multiple forms of exercise equipment to include mechanical and non-mechanical workout equipment.

  • Skill in curriculum development.

  • Skill in how to properly use work out equipment to include mechanical and non-mechanical workout equipment.

  • Ability to demonstrate the proper form and technique of physical exercises.

  • Ability to run, bend, kneel, squat, sit, stand, and lift weight up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to accurately document performance and provide feedback in a clear concise manner.

  • Ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Ability to flex schedule based on needs of the department; Requires shift work. 

  • Ability to maintain required certifications and licenses. 

Qualifying Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Health, or related field.

  • Three (3) years experience.

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

Certifications required:

  • NCSA, ACSM, NASM, ISSA, AFFA or ACE.

  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

  • A certification in nutrition or ability to obtain one within one year of employment. 

Preferred Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • Plus, one year experience working as law enforcement instructor preferred.

Employment Screenings Required:

  • Criminal Background Check.

  • CJIS Background Check.

  • Drug/alcohol testing.

  • Physical.

  • HPE

Arlington Police Department General Orders prohibit employees from having tattoos on any part of the hands (below the cuff of a long-sleeve shirt), neck, face, head, eyelids, mouth, and ears, with the following exceptions:

1.  Tattoo of one wedding band on the left-hand ring finger.

2.  Professional style permanent facial make-up on the eyebrows, eyeline, cheeks, and lips.
