Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to support the Electrical and Instrumentation teams within the Energy Engineering Center of Excellence. AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including industrial facilities (mining, water treatment, Oil and Gas, Power Generation) transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.). 

The successful candidate will have an understanding and experience in electrical design and technology principles. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with an excellent attention to detail.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Act as Electrical discipline CAD lead on projects of all sizes
  • Day to Day design and preparation of electrical deliverables, documentation, packages and reports
  • Equipment general arrangements, one lines, schematics, plans (grounding, lighting, cable tray, power, instrument), wiring diagrams, installation details etc.
  • Prepare bills of materials and quantity take offs
  • Employ a variety of data sources to build project model environment including but not limited to laser scan, vendor files, existing base surfaces from LiDAR, survey points and contours.
  • Detailed understanding of coordinate systems and the ability to transform data from one system to another.
  • Data management (e.g. vendor data, client data) through the project life cycle.
  • Meeting with clients for project kickoff, ongoing design review, and project close out.
  • Maintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgeting, mentorship and performance management
  • Creating, updating, and implementing group specific CAD standards and details
  • Contributes to a complete and integrated set of digital project content which includes but not limited to identification of utility clashes, creation of relocation alignments and required documents by working co-operatively with team members to resolve issues
  • Assist with preparation of project specification and contract documents
  • Reviews work prepared by peer/group
  • Applies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US electrical and instrument infrastructure and networks at industrial facilities
  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work
  • Collaborate effectively with US and international design staff to create quality deliverables
  • Participate in site field visits and walk downs

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience  or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Demonstrated experience in AutoCAD 3D modeling environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the management of Common Data Environments including ProjectWise, BIM 360, ACC
  • Adaptability and fervent curiosity in learning new software and applications
  • Experience utilizing and integrating
