The Surgical Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The NP provides healthcare in ambulatory and acute health care settings. Including management of surgical patients from pre-operative, peri-operative and post operative phases of care. The NP has didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in identified area of clinical practice. The NP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. Our Pediatric Cardiology Teams at VUMC are growing! We are looking for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants to join our Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Team.
The Pediatric Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides healthcare in both an ambulatory and inpatient care setting. The APP has didactic education, clinical competency, and national certification in clinical practice. The NP/PA demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. The NP/PA works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team providing clinical care for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease in the continuum of surgical care.
The role of the advanced practice provider will be to support the inpatient pediatric cardiac team including following functions:
H&P and discharge summaries for pre and post operative clinic visits.
Inpatient (floors, ICU, ED) consults at Monroe Carell.
Rounding on patients
Performing procedures: intracardiac line removal, chest tube, wound care
Participating in education of learners in an academic institution
Position Hours:
Full-Time
12 Hour Shifts
Rotating Weekends
Department Summary:
Monroe Carell has one of the most experienced pediatric heart surgery teams in the nation. Our heart surgeries range from closures of septal defects to very complex procedures, including Glenn and Fontan procedures, and heart transplantation. We provided dedicated pediatric cardiac psychology and child life services to help your child and family navigate the heart repair journey. We perform surgeries at Monroe Carell in Nashville and and are able to see patients before and after surgery at other Middle Tennessee locations.
Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Acute Care (CPNP-AC)
Dual Certification in Primary Care Preferred
Physician Assistant
Minimum of 3 years of Advanced Practice Experience, prefer pediatric congenital heart experience
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
• In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patient's overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
• Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
• Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
• Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected
