Note: All staff are hired by Milford School District rather than a specific building. Final placement is subject to change based on district staffing needs.
Position Summary: This paraprofessional position supports the educational, behavioral, and personal needs of students, including those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, and other specialized supports. The paraprofessional collaborates with teachers and related service providers to implement instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports that promote student success. At times, this position may also be assigned to provide direct support to one or more specifically assigned students. Responsibilities include adapting instructional activities, reinforcing academic, social-emotional, and behavioral skills, monitoring student safety and conduct, and collecting accurate data related to student progress toward educational and behavioral goals. Strong collaboration with staff, sensitivity to individual student needs, and a commitment to maintaining a supportive, inclusive learning environment are essential. Ongoing professional development is expected to ensure effective implementation of best practices and district initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Eligible for Delaware Paraprofessional Certification through one of the following:
- High School Diploma plus passing the Paraprofessional Assessment, or
- Completion of at least two years (60 credits) at an institution of higher learning, or
- Associate's degree or higher
- Experience working with students receiving special education services preferred
- Ability to track and record data accurately
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assist with instructional activities for individual students and/or groups as assigned
- Support instruction across grade levels and content as directed
- Record data related to individual student progress and goals
- Adapt and modify instructional activities and materials to meet student needs
- Adjust instructional methods in response to student abilities and developmental levels
- Reinforce academic skills and appropriate behaviors as taught by the teacher
- Respond to student behavioral needs with respect and appropriateness
- Monitor student activities and behavior to ensure safety and adherence to conduct standards
- Support student(s) with personal needs and hygiene care.
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative relationships with staff and students
- Assist teachers in evaluating student progress and provide individualized or small group support based on instructional guidelines
- Work sensitively with students receiving special education services and attend to their specialized needs
- Participate in professional development activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment: Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
