Overview
The Structures & Hydraulics Section of the Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking Technical Apprentices to work this summer and assist our Hydraulics team with evaluating "Scour Critical Bridges". This will involve visits to bridges and office work. There will also be opportunities to work on the development of scoping reports for future bridge projects.
The Structures Design Section is responsible for the design, plan development, and construction assistance for bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects on the interstate, and State/local highway systems. In addition to the "Scour Critical Bridge" project, these Apprentices will work with our Hydraulics team to determine the hydraulic adequacy of existing bridges along with sizing new bridges for various storm events.
These positions will work 40 hours per week and are great opportunities for college students interested in engineering to gain valuable work experience. The positions are based in Barre, VT and teleworking is possible. intern, internship, college, summer job
Who May Apply
This position, AOT Technical Apprentice III (Job Req #49456), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. May be required on occasion to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded and/or steep terrain, or travel in boats. Field work may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions. Duties may require exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of full-time college coursework in science, engineering, environmental studies, or related technical field.
OR
High school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year performing engineering/technical support tasks.
OR
Two (2) seasons working as an AOT Technical Apprentice II with the State of Vermont.
Special Requirements
Current, valid driver’s license required, and transportation may be required for field assignments.
