We are seeking a seasoned Database Administrator who will serve as a critical component of a Hybrid Agile development team dedicated to the modernization of IT Service Management (ITSM) for a federal agency through the use of ServiceNow's Enterprise Service Management (ESM) platform. This role is designed to ensure the optimal performance, security, and integrity of databases that are integral to the successful deployment and operation of the ServiceNow platform within the agency. Leveraging a DevSecOps methodology, the Database Administrator will be responsible for the routine operations and maintenance of databases, ensuring their seamless integration and efficient performance in support of ITSM, SPM (Strategic Portfolio Management), ITOM (IT Operations Management), Customer Service Management, and other ServiceNow workflows. The position demands a proactive approach to database management, focusing on maintaining high availability, performance tuning, and ensuring data integrity across all systems interfacing with the ServiceNow platform. This position is contingent upon contract award.
 
What is the position? 
The Database Administrator will be a key player in the successful implementation and ongoing support of the ServiceNow ESM platform, ensuring that database operations are optimized to support the agency's mission of modernizing its ITSM processes. Through diligent maintenance, security practices, and strategic planning for scalability, the successful candidate will contribute significantly to the reliability and performance of the IT infrastructure underpinning the ServiceNow platform.
 
What will I get to do?  

• Manage and maintain database operations, ensuring high availability, and reliable performance of databases interacting with the ServiceNow platform.
• Conduct regular database maintenance tasks, including backups, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal operation and security.
• Oversee the integrity and security of databases, implementing robust measures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and loss.
• Assist with the integration of ServiceNow with existing databases and systems, managing data migration processes to ensure minimal downtime and integrity of data.
• Monitor database capacity and performance, planning and implementing scalability solutions to meet the evolving demands of the agency's modernized IT environment.
• Collaborate with IT teams to ensure that database strategies align with the overall architecture and support the objectives of the ServiceNow platform deployment.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to database configurations, maintenance procedures, and integration processes.
• Provide technical support and guidance on database management to IT staff and end-users, ensuring best practices are followed.
• Stay updated on the latest database technologies and ServiceNow updates, exploring opportunities for enhancing database performance and functionality.

 
What qualifications do I need? 

• Must have the ability to pass a background check and obtain a Public Trust clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in database administration, preferably with exposure to ServiceNow or similar enterprise management platforms.
• 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

 
What additional characteristics will help me thrive?  

• ServiceNow Certification is highly desired, indicating a foundational understanding of the platform and its integration points with databases.
• ITIL v3 and/or ITIL v4 Certifications is highly desired.
• Strong knowledge of database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and experience with database management, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
