Responsibilities and Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practices. Knowledge of support service delivery systems and exceptional education services and current diagnostic procedures in occupational therapy. Knowledge of federal guidelines and legislation as it relates to exceptional education; knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). Ability to communicate effectively using written and oral communication skills. Ability to use effective positive interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze data, both verbal and written. Knowledge of various learning styles. Commitment to a core set of beliefs about learning, treatment, and ongoing professional development. Ability to collaborate with other disciplines and services at departmental, system levels, and to review outcomes and modify intervention programs according to student needs. Understands how to lead the process in development, implementation, and coordination of occupational therapy support as a related service. Screening, evaluation, educational program and transition planning, as well as therapeutic intervention provided for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities or participate in necessary or desired occupations. Professional judgment and clinical knowledge are used to develop individualized programming based on occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, student role, interaction skills, process skills, play, community integration/work, and graphic communication.REPORTS TO: Director - ESE Itinerant & Specialized ServicesSUPERVISES: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT:Machines, tools, equipment, electronic devices, vehicles, etc., used in this position. Telephone, Computer, (Personal Computer and Mainframe), Automobile, CopierPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Describes physical conditions of this position.Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:Physical activities of this position. Percent of a typical day involved in each applicable activity is noted.Percentage40 Sitting: Resting with the body supported by the buttocks or thighs.40 Standing: Assuming an upright position on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.20 Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.10 Bending: Lowering the body forward from the waist.10 Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.10 Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position through the use of the upper extremities and back muscles exerting up to 10 pounds of force.80 Finger Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.70 Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.90 Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
