Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Lighthorse Police Officer will be responsible for patrolling and working cases within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Primary Tasks:
- Enforce all Tribal, State and Federal laws.
- Perform patrol functions in assigned area(s).
- Investigate and make a report of motor vehicle collisions and criminal offenses.
- Properly prepare arrest cases; testify in court as a witness when called.
- Carry out assignments as directed and remain on such assignments until relieved by proper authority.
- Escort funeral processes, parades, officials, oversized vehicles, etc. as directed.
- Attend department meetings, training courses, conferences, etc. as directed.
- Keep up with current events of things that are going on in their area and keep their supervisor informed concerning matters of significance in area (s) of patrol.
- Work collaboratively with other Police Departments to ensure consistent and comprehensive services to the citizens of the Choctaw Nation.
- Observant for unsafe conditions on the street such as obstructions, debris, icy bridges, high water, damage to pavement, inadequate or damaged traffic control devices and take appropriate action to correct them.
- Locate and take persons into custody on warrants. Transport prisoners as needed.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Medically fit and able to perform Police Officer duties.
- Must possess a valid State driver's license.
- Basic computer skills to enable report writing, composition or correspondence, use of law enforcement communication software, Internet and e-mail.
- Completion of the law enforcement academy.
- Must be able to perform and pass a physical fitness test. (one mile run in 13 minutes, 10 pushups in 2 minutes, agility run in 24 seconds)
- Must be able to qualify yearly with department firearms.
- Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress and conflict situations.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make logical decisions.
- Medium work: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force.
- Duties require to work outside; normal hours and exposure to the elements.
